Responding to the call given by Koshal State Coordination Committee, all the 10 districts of western Odisha, popularly known as Koshal region, supported and observed bandh for 12 hours. Business establishments and offices remained shut and vehicular traffic came to a halt due to a 12 hours bandh called by the KSCC demanding a separate Koshal state on 26th August. Except the violent clash in Sambalpur between the supporters and opponents of separate Koshal state, the bandh was observed peacefully in rest part of west Odisha.
In Sambalpur the supporters of separate Koshal state were attacked by the opponents while they detained the Sambalpur-Puri Intercity Express. As per the sources the supporters sit on the rail tracks and didn’t allow the Sambalpur–Puri Intercity Express to leave the station early in the morning.
The passengers and opponents appealed not to cause inconvenience. But the protesters ignored them. Then the protesters were shoved by the opponents. The incident become violent when some passengers burnt the banners of the protesters put up on the tacks. The supporters also retaliated in equal measure.
In other parts, both in rural and urban, Koshal state supporters staged demonstration on the road at different places of western Odisha. The supporters staged a rail roko. Koshal supporters closed the private and government educational institutions also.
