Sambalpur University, the highest educational institution of western Odisha has got a jolt. The State Government has directed to abolish 154 posts of Sambalpur University. These 154 posts include 78 posts from Group D and 76 from Group C.
Further, instead of filling up the posts, the State Government has directed to depute concern personnel for posts which were lying vacant for past few years. The decision of the State Government has annoyed staff of Sambalpur University and people of western Odisha.
There are 236 colleges affiliated to Sambalpur University which are running in 10 districts of western Odisha.
As per the information received, the State Government has directed to filling up of some vacant posts in Samablpur University while ordering abolition of as many as 154 posts. Group D posts include Sweeper, Watchman, Peon, Technical Assistant, Electrician, Wireman, etc. If the posts are abolished from Sambalpur University, then student and teachers will be affected mostly.
Similarly, the State Government has ordered to filled Development Officer, Medical Officer, Accountant Officer, and Junior Engineer etc, posts in deputation. The junior assistant posts have been increased from 45 to 69.
Meanwhile, the Sambalpur University Employees’ Association has opposed the decision of the State Government and threatened to agitate if the department fails to withdraw the decision.
Lakhs of students are appearing examinations every year in Samablpur University and abolition of 154 posts will affect the smooth functioning of the university.
