Fifty Five blood banks running without license in the state

RTI activist Ashis Khaitan of Kantabanji district Balangir filed an RTI to know how the Health Department of the State government is working and how much concern it is about the health of the people of the state.

According to the report, total 83 private and government blood banks are working in the state.  Out of the 83, 55 blood banks are working illegally.  55 blood banks are running without renewal.

The government is playing with the lakhs of life of the patient and the common man in the state says Secretary of Right To Fight and RTI activist Ashis Khaitan.

According to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940-1945, if the license of a blood bank is expired, then that should be renewed within 6 months and if it failed to renew it then action should be taken against it.  But surprisingly 55 blood banks are running without any renewal and the government and the health department is silent on it.

Right To Fight of Kantabanji some 5 months ago on 25th September  2016  complained at the National Human Rights Commission regarding this.  The commission accept the complain and on 26th October 2016 ordered to the Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to give information and act within 7 week to the complainant.

The Union Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare wrote letter to the State government on 22nd November to act according to Case No. 5760/18/28/2016.

Further a complaint was submitted to the state government through the CDMO Balangir.  But the state government has yet not taken any action regarding this.

According the information, the blood banks which are running without renewal are, Balangir, Kantabanji, Titilagarh, Patnagarh, Bargarh, Padampur, Bhawanipatna, Jharsuguda, Boudh, Bhanjanagar, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Dharamgarh, Kendrapara, Anandpur, Champua, Joda, Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar, Jeypur, Malkangiri, Nabarangur, Phulbani, Rayagada, Gunpur, Kuchinda, Rairakhol, Sudergarh, Cuttack Medical College, Rourkela, Banai, Private Bloood Bank CRCCB Mangalabag Cuttack, Jyoti Hospita Balasore, Catholic Mission Hospital Bargarh, Belpahar, TISCO Joda, Apolo Hospital Bhubaneswar, Asha Kiran Hospital Koraput, Kishichayan Hospital Nabarangpur, JMJ Hospital Barpali, Basej Patel Hospital Rourkela, Community Welfare Hospital Jagada, Hitech Medical Rourkela, Kishichayan Medical Bisamkatak, Neheru Hospital Talcher, Central Hospital Brajarajnagar, HAL Sunabeda, Nalco Hospital Damanjodi, Immune  Pathology and Blood Bank Rourkela.

The Right To Fight organization will file PIL in future regarding it.
