Condition of ITs in Odisha

Spread the love

In a rather disturbing development, number of enrollments and pass outs from technical institutions in the state is on the decline. Engineering schools and colleges, ITIs, institutions teaching IT courses- every institution has seen lower intake recently. There is a palpable disillusionment with technical courses as the employment opportunities created to absorb the new pass outs continue to be inadequate. Institutes offering courses in the state have not been able to provide employment to pass outs through campus interviews. Number of companies recruiting through campus interviews has come down drastically. Out of the total 1, 05,764 technical students who have registered their names in different employment offices, but only 258 candidates have got the jobs. There is no spectacular change in the employment scenario in the state over years as industrial development has not kept pace with the number of pass outs from technical institutions. Besides the payment for technical graduates has come down which has become another deterrent for technical education.

Hope the trend to reverse as technical education is the pivot of a skilled manpower framework which required for growth in industrial activities which on the other hand create employment opportunities. Along with accelerated industrialization, high standards of teaching must be ensured in institutions so that pass out students can either get employed in industries or self-employed.
